Welcome to NOVA’s Home Page! We are the Northern Virginia Running Club. Our club consists of runners, of course, most of whom live in the Arlington and Alexandria area. Some of our members live outside the beltway but stop by to join us for a run on the way home. We welcome members from all over the D.C. area.
We are a diverse club made up of local elite athletes, competitive masters runners, long time members who just want to stay in shape and new runners training for their first race. NOVA even has quite a few multi-sport athletes that join us for track workouts.
NOVA is best known for their weekly Tuesday track workouts. Our coach, Jerry Alexander, provides a weekly workout that he supervises. After our Tuesday session, many of us head over to a local pizza joint for some post workout carbo loading. In addition to the track workout many of us link up for tempo runs or weekend long runs in preparation for fall or spring races.
NOVA also reports members race results. No pressure if you prefer to keep that to yourself but it’s exciting to know how the people you train with fared in their respective races. We want our members to feel like there is a place for them to celebrate their achievements!
If socializing is important to you, NOVA sponsors seasonal parties and Happy Hours.
We also want to inform our members of the latest strengthening workouts or running fads. Our weekly newsletter always has a link or two of interests related to running. Many of the members forward stuff to the NOVA Board for inclusion in the weekly newsletter.
NOVA also promotes races that serve various charities and our members are very good about reminding us about those entry deadlines that sneak up on us ever year.
NOVA is also involved in quite a few races as volunteers. In the past year, we have served as course marshals for locally renowned races such as the St Patrick’s Day 8K, the Nations Marathon and Half Marathon, the Veteran’s Day 10K and the Jingle Bell 10K.
As part of giving back to the Community, NOVA is also involved in putting on road races for charity in the summer on the W&OD trail and in the fall, organizes a Cross Country “Cookie” Runs. Speaking of the W&OD, NOVA “owns” a 2 mile portion of the W&OD Trail from Columbia Pike to Bluemont Park in Arlington. At least twice a year, NOVA members are out collecting trash, doing our part to the keep the trail and the Chesapeake Bay Watershed clean.
From track workouts, to volunteering, to putting on races and socializing, NOVA is a club that does it all. If you are interested in joining NOVA see the Membership page or check out the links to our weekly newsletter.
